Arranging Words in Alphabetical Order

Alphabetical order means arranging words from A to Z, just like in a dictionary. We compare the first letter of each word. If the first letters are the same, we look at the second letter, then the third letter, and so on.

Simple Example:

• Cat, Dog, Apple, Ball
  • The correct order is: Apple, Ball, Cat, Dog

Complex Example:

• Knight, Knife, Knit, Know, Knock
  • All start with ‘K’, so we check the second letter:
  • Knight (Kn-i), Knife (Kn-i), Knit (Kn-i), Know (Kn-o), Knock (Kn-o)
  • Among ‘Kn-i’ words: Knife, Knight, Knit
  • Among ‘Kn-o’ words: Knock, Know
  • The correct order is: Knife, Knight, Knit, Knock, Know
