In the above examples we find that the words are formed by joining two words. The word thus formed conveys a totally different meaning from those used in the formation of the words. Such words are called Compound words.

Definition: Compound words are defined as words formed by joining two words to form a third word with a different meaning. Compound words may or may not be hyphenated.
