Ans.
The meaning of this proverb is ….our success does not depend on what Kind of tools we have but how we use them.
A person may have all the equipments in the world but if he does not know how to use them he can never complete a job successfully. Whereas a person who can make effective use of what is available with him can make a success of any work given to him.
Ram and Shyam were two farmers who were neighbours. Both owned a pair of oxen each with which they ploughed their land. Ram worked hard all day long in order to get a good yield and looked after his oxen very well since he knew that they were very important for his farming activity
Shyam on the other hand was a very lazy and a miser who never fed his oxen properly but extracted maximum work from them and kept complaining that they were not doing a good job.
As a true friend Ram advised and pointed out to Shyam that it was cruel to ill-treat the animals which were helping him make a living. Shyam paid little attention to Ram’s words. He soon bought a tractor to plough his land and chased the oxen away since he no longer needed them. Taking pity on the poor animals Ram took them with him although he could ill-afford to maintain them.
The monsoon soon arrived and it was time for cultivation. Ram’s land was well ploughed and ready for cultivation – thanks to his oxen. Shyam in his miserly fashion had not maintained his tractor well and it kept giving him trouble. With the result, he could not get his land ready for cultivation on time.
He lamented and blamed it all on bad luck not realizing that it was he who was responsible for his miserable state. Shyam not only lost out on a good yield by his laziness but also spent more money than required to repair his tractor due to poor maintenance.
Despite having better equipment Shyam was unable to get the best results, whereas Ram was a good workman and hence was able to succeed with the limited resources that he had.
Ans.
A bird which one has got in the hand is always more valuable than two or three birds which one aims to get but are in the bush. The reason is that the birds in the bush are away from the person and the possibility of getting them is doubtful. The birds in the bush can always fly away and leave the person with nothing, while the one in his hand cannot escape. The one in the hand can be useful to him. So if the person lets the bird in his hand go free and tries to catch those in the bush, they may also fly away leaving him a complete loser. It is therefore wise on the part of the person to be satisfied with the bird he has got and not to go off looking for those that flew away.
It is always wise to utilize whatever opportunity is at hand than to look forward to some other opportunity that may come in future with more advantages. It is best to be satisfied with whatever chance is there and make the most out of it than wait for a better one which may never come. This proverb means that it is better to be in possession of even so small thing than to have hopes or expectations based on something that is bigger or of greater value but is far away and difficult to get. This applies to people also. Those who are near to us and willing to help are more valuable friends than those who are away. Those who are away might not be willing to help at all. So it is foolish to reject whatever help is at hand. Our neighbors who are poor sometimes prove to be more helpful to us than our rich relatives who are far away. The wise man always relies on the present instead of laying his hopes in future.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder is a proverb that means when someone you love is faraway, you realise how much you love or miss them. In other words, when people we love are not with us, we love them even more. The time you spend away from one you love makes you love that person even more. When a husband is away for too long, his wife will feel lonely and think about him more than when he was present with her. The husband too will feel the pang of loneliness in the absence of his wife.
We naturally feel the absence of a loved one more acutely on some ocassions such as birthdays, anniversaries and festivals. These are times when we wished to spend and share the moments together. It is well known that during child birth, couple wish to be together. If they were apart, they will always regret not being together.
The word “absence” means to be away. To “grow fonder” is to care more. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. The time you spend away from someone you love makes you love that person even more. An example of this proverb can be seen between children and parents. When children are living with their parents, they take it for granted and think nothing of it. But when their parents are away from home, they will miss them so much and are extremely glad when they see them.
When someone you care for is away, you miss that person and think about them often, and that feeling makes you want to be with them even more.

The proverb “action speaks louder than words” is a valuable life lesson. An action strongly correlates with what one wants and believes. Actions certainly speak the truth. It is much easier to lie with your words than with your actions. You can say anything without believing strongly in it.
You may achieve your goals in life when you stop talking and take action. Words rarely have the same impact as actions. Anyone can say anything; it is not at all a difficult effort. But putting what you said into practice requires a great deal of bravery. Therefore, it is always preferable to act first and speak later. Conquer, then announce your victory.
If you perform your actions dedicatedly, others will see that you are capable of doing what you say, they will respect you, which will lead to more mutual trust.
Doing more and saying less also facilitates trust in any relationship. Trust is crucial in all kinds of relationships. No relationship can endure without trust. It’s simple to establish trust by communicating with your teachers and peers about what you will do and actually doing it.

Title: “A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words”
Introduction
The saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” is a familiar proverb that conveys the idea that a single image can convey a complex message or story more effectively than a thousand words of written or spoken language. In simple terms, it suggests that sometimes, pictures or images can speak louder and clearer than words can. This proverb highlights the powerful impact visuals can have on our understanding and communication.
The Visual Language
Human beings are inherently visual creatures. Since the dawn of time, we have communicated and expressed ourselves through images, drawings, and symbols. Even before the invention of writing, early humans used cave paintings to tell stories, record events, and communicate important information. This shows that pictures have always played a significant role in human communication.
Efficiency and Clarity
One of the primary reasons why a picture is often considered to be worth a thousand words is the efficiency and clarity with which it conveys information. When we see an image, we can instantly grasp its meaning, without the need for lengthy explanations. For instance, a photograph of a joyful family reunion captures the emotions and warmth of the moment far better than a detailed description ever could.
Crossing Language Barriers
Images have the unique ability to transcend language barriers. No matter where you come from or what language you speak, a smile on a child’s face or a sunset over the ocean can convey emotions and experiences that are universally understood. In a world that is becoming increasingly connected, this ability to communicate across languages is invaluable.
Evoke Emotions
Pictures have the power to evoke strong emotions. They can make us laugh, cry, feel inspired, or provoke deep thought. Think about a powerful image from history, like the photograph of a young girl running from a napalm attack during the Vietnam War. This one image did more to communicate the horrors of war and the innocent lives affected than any news report or article ever could.
Enhancing Memory
Our brains are wired to remember images more effectively than words. Studies have shown that people tend to remember visual information much better and for longer periods than text-based information. This is why teachers often use visual aids like diagrams and charts in classrooms to help students remember complex concepts.
Advertising and Marketing
In the world of advertising and marketing, the saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” is put into practice daily. Companies and advertisers understand that a compelling image can sell a product or idea more effectively than a lengthy sales pitch. When we see a delicious burger in a fast-food advertisement or a stunning vacation destination in a travel brochure, we are enticed by the images, even before reading the accompanying text.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the proverb “A picture is worth a thousand words” reminds us of the incredible power of visual communication. Images can efficiently convey complex ideas, cross language barriers, evoke emotions, enhance memory, and influence our decisions. In a world inundated with information and communication, the ability to harness the power of images is more important than ever. So, next time you see a powerful image that moves you, remember that sometimes, a single picture can speak volumes in a way that words alone cannot.

Similarly, a minor issue with a car, if left unattended, can turn into a breakdown, leaving you stranded and with a hefty repair bill.
In Everyday Life
The wisdom of “A stitch in time saves nine” applies to many aspects of life. It reminds us to address issues in our personal relationships, health, and work promptly. For instance, if you have a misunderstanding with a friend or family member, addressing it and communicating openly can prevent a small rift from turning into a major conflict.

Additionally, taking care of your health by eating well and exercising regularly can prevent health issues that may require more extensive treatments later on.

In other words, it emphasizes the importance of humility and gratitude when one is in a position of dependency or need.
The Meaning of the Proverb
At its core, this proverb reminds us that when we find ourselves in a situation where we rely on the kindness or assistance of others, we should not complain or be overly particular about what is offered to us. The Origins of the Saying
The origin of this proverb dates back centuries, and it has been a part of various cultures and languages. It likely emerged as a practical piece of advice in times when begging was more common, serving as a reminder to beggars to be grateful for whatever help they received.
The Value of Humility
Humility is a virtue that the proverb underscores. 2. Accepting Help: In times of personal crisis or difficulty, such as during a health crisis, it is crucial to accept support and assistance from friends, family, or the community without being overly selective or demanding.
3. Charity and Donations: Charitable organizations and individuals often provide aid to those in need. The proverb reminds us to be grateful for the assistance offered, regardless of whether it precisely matches our preferences.
4. Resource Scarcity: In situations of scarcity, such as during a natural disaster or a shortage of essential supplies, it is essential to make do with what is available and not be choosy about resources.
Conclusion

Ultimately, this proverb teaches us that the ability to accept help with humility is a mark of strength and resilience.

The proverb “Better late than never” is a simple yet profound saying that reminds us that it’s often better to do something, even if it’s delayed, than not doing it at all. In other words, it emphasizes the value of taking action or completing a task, regardless of the delay, because it can still bring benefits and positive outcomes.
Understanding the Proverb
Imagine you have a friend who promised to visit you, but they arrive much later than expected. You might feel a bit frustrated because of the delay, but when they finally arrive, you are happy to see them. This situation exemplifies the essence of the proverb. It suggests that although punctuality is important, the ultimate goal is to fulfill promises and commitments, even if they are fulfilled later than planned.
Benefits of “Better Late Than Never”

However, this proverb encourages us to start, even if it’s later than we initially intended. Completing a task, no matter when, can lead to a sense of accomplishment and personal growth.
2. Second Chances: Life often offers second chances. People can change, circumstances can improve, and opportunities can arise even after initial setbacks. By embracing the “better late than never” mindset, we remain open to these second chances and the potential for positive change.
3. Perseverance: Achieving long-term goals often involves setbacks and delays. This proverb reminds us that persistence and determination can lead to success, even if it takes more time than expected. It encourages us not to give up on our aspirations.
4. Relationships: In personal relationships, forgiveness and understanding play a significant role. When someone apologizes or makes amends for their mistakes or delays, acknowledging their efforts can strengthen relationships and foster trust and forgiveness.
Real-Life Examples
1. Education: It’s never too late to pursue education. Many individuals return to school later in life to acquire new skills or complete their degrees, leading to better career opportunities.
2. Health and Fitness: Starting a healthier lifestyle, even in middle age, can lead to improved well-being and longevity. Many people make significant improvements in their health by making changes later in life.
3. Environmental Conservation: Addressing environmental issues, such as reducing waste or conserving resources, is crucial. Even if we start late, every effort counts toward a sustainable future.
Conclusion

This proverb, “Charity begins at home,” means that helping and caring for your own family is really important. It’s like saying you should take care of your parents, brothers, sisters, and others who live with you before helping people outside your home.
Think of your family as your starting point for being kind and helpful. Make sure everyone in your family is happy and has what they need, like love, food, and support. Once your family is okay, then you can think about helping others, like friends or people in your neighborhood.
The proverb “Charity begins at home” is like a reminder to pay special attention to the people you live with, your family. It suggests that being kind and helpful should start right there, within your own household. This doesn’t just mean giving money—it’s about being supportive, understanding, and caring for the well-being of your family members.
Think of your family as the first place where you learn to be generous and considerate. It’s like a practice ground for being a good and helpful person. When everyone in your family feels loved and supported, it creates a positive atmosphere at home.
Once your family is taken care of, it’s like you’ve built a strong foundation of kindness. Then, you can extend that kindness to others outside your family, like friends, neighbors, or people in your community. The idea is that by starting with your family, you’re learning how to be a caring person, and then you can share that care with a wider circle of people.
In a way, the proverb is saying that being charitable is not just about giving things—it’s also about how you treat and support the people closest to you. It’s a bit like saying, “Make your home a happy and caring place, and that goodness will naturally spread to others.”

The saying “Curiosity killed the cat” is a cautionary phrase that warns against being too nosy or inquisitive. It suggests that asking too many questions or poking into things that don’t concern you can lead to trouble or negative consequences.
Firstly, let’s break down the saying. “Curiosity” refers to the desire to know or learn about something, often by asking questions or investigating. “Killed the cat” is a figurative expression, meaning that being overly curious can have negative outcomes.
Now, imagine a playful and curious cat exploring its surroundings. Cats are known for their inquisitive nature, often investigating new objects or places with enthusiasm. The proverb, however, implies that this curiosity can sometimes lead to unfortunate consequences.
In a more general sense, the saying suggests that being too nosy or prying into matters that don’t concern you might get you into trouble. It doesn’t mean that curiosity itself is bad, but rather, it warns against taking it to an extreme or meddling in situations where it’s better to remain uninvolved.
One interpretation of the proverb is that excessive curiosity can lead to unintended and adverse outcomes. For example, imagine overhearing a private conversation and then asking too many questions about it. This might lead to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, or even conflicts. In this scenario, the curiosity, represented by the cat, “killed” the harmonious atmosphere or good relationship.
The saying is not meant to discourage all curiosity; instead, it advises moderation. It’s like saying, “It’s good to be curious, but be careful not to go too far.” Asking questions and seeking knowledge are generally positive traits, but the proverb suggests being mindful of boundaries and respecting the privacy of others.
In a broader context, the saying might also caution against unnecessary risks. Cats are known for their agility and ability to navigate tricky situations, but sometimes their curiosity can lead them into dangerous or precarious positions. Similarly, the proverb suggests that being too adventurous or taking unnecessary risks out of curiosity may lead to trouble.
The phrase is often used in a lighthearted manner to remind someone to be cautious or to discourage them from prying into matters that are not their concern. It’s like a friendly warning to avoid unnecessary complications.
In conclusion, “Curiosity killed the cat” is a proverb that advises caution when it comes to being overly curious or inquisitive. It doesn’t mean curiosity is bad; instead, it suggests that curiosity should be tempered with wisdom and an understanding of boundaries. By using the cat as a metaphor, the saying reminds us that while curiosity is a natural and positive trait, it’s essential to be mindful of when and where we express it to avoid unintended consequences. So, it’s not about suppressing curiosity but about exercising it wisely and with consideration for others.
