1. Explain the concept ‘Geography’.
The word ‘Geography’ is taken from the Greek word ‘Geographia’. ‘Geo’ means the Earth and ‘graphia’ means description. Therefore, Geography means ‘the science that describes the Earth’. Geography includes the study of physical and anthropogenic (man-made) components on the surface of the Earth and their interdependence.

In Geography, both physical and human elements are studied. Physical elements include lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere and resources. Human elements include population, human settlements, economic activities, social and cultural factors, environment and sustainable development. Geography also studies the interrelationship between these elements.
