Chapter 7 Ratio and Proportion – Practice Set 7.2 Solution

Practice Set 7.2
(1) A charitable organization wants to gift compass boxes to 67 needy students of a school, one each. The cost of a pack containing 10 compass boxes is ₹ 850. How much will the organization spend on purchasing compass boxes?
Solution
Let us find the cost of 1 compass box.
Cost of 10 compass boxes = ₹ 850
∴ Cost of 1 compass box = ₹ 850 ÷ 10 = ₹ 85.
∴ Cost of 67 compass boxes = 85 × 67 = ₹ 5,695
Ans. Organisation will spend ₹ 5,695 for 67 compass boxes.
(2) A goods train covers a distance of 240 km at a constant speed in 4 hours, then how much distance will that goods train cover in 7 hours?
Solution
A goods train covers 240 km in 4 hours.
∴ a goods train will cover 240 ÷ 4 = 60 km in 1 hour.
∴ it will cover 60 × 7 = 420 km in 7 hours.
Ans. The goods train will cover 420 km in 7 hours.
