(1) Why was the Royal Cubit introduced?
Answer: An ordinary cubit depended on the distance from a person’s elbow to the tip of the middle finger. As this distance varied from person to person, the King’s cubit was established as a fixed Royal Cubit.
(2) Explain the centimetre and millimetre markings on a 15 cm ruler.
Answer: The ruler contains markings from 0 to 15. The distance between two consecutive big markings is one centimetre. Each centimetre is divided into ten equal small parts, and each small part is one millimetre.
(3) Why should a thermometer be observed at eye level?
Answer: The liquid level must be at eye level so that the correct mark aligned with it can be observed. Viewing it from above or below may result in an incorrect temperature reading.

(1) Relative sensation activity
Answer: The mixed water may feel cold to the right hand that was previously in hot water. The same water may feel warm to the left hand that was previously in cold water. This proves that touch gives only a relative sensation. It cannot tell the exact temperature.

Answer: An infrared thermometer should be used. It measures body temperature quickly and instantly from a short distance without touching the person.
